Comptroller's Webinars Inform Local Property Tax Officials about Recent Changes Affecting Local Taxes

The last session of the legislature made a number of changes impacting local taxes. TheComptroller of Public Accounts is conducting a series of webinars to explain the changes. These webinars, however, are primarily directed toward appraisal districts and county tax assessor-collectors.

A link near the bottom of the page leads to a document,Texas Property Tax Law Changes 2009 that may be of more interest to school business officials. One of the more helpful features of this analysis of the changes is that it clearly indicates the date on which they become effective.

This page has the Comptroller’s Truth In Taxation guidelines including the information about the effective tax rate calculations, the notices that must be posted and rollback procedures.

This memo from the Texas Association of School Boards summarizes the entire process.  Pay special attention to the parts marked “new” as the wording of the motions and ordinances to adopt the tax rate have, in some cases, changed.
