TEA Announces Funding Cuts |

The Texas Education Agency announced potential funding cuts up to $135 million to school districts and charter schools yesterday for school years 2009-2010 and 2010-2011. School officials should review contracts and other fiscal commitments, and review various options for funding legal obligations. The February 19, 2010 TO THE ADMINISTRATOR ADDRESSED letter referenced various program areas, as follows:
- High Schools That Work
- Investment Capital Fund
- Beginning Teacher Induction and Mentoring (Teacher Mentoring Program)
- Intensive Summer Program
- Math Instructional Coaches Pilot
- Student Success Initiative Targeted Assistance Grants (New)
- Middle School Physical Education & Fitness
- Science Lab Grant Program
- Life Skills Student Parents
- Optional Extended Year
TEA indicated the potential funding cuts will not affect entitlement amounts currently awarded in Notices of Grant Award (NOGA) or NOGAs in process. The list of affected programs or initiatives and dollar amounts is accessible at http://ritter.tea.state.tx.us/lar/FivePrecentReductionTEAl.pdf.
