Dear Colleague:
The one year anniversary of ARRA is marked by mounting questions about the use of funds and the specter of looming state deficits. Across the nation, ARRA funds have been used in a variety of ways, some more innovative and effective than others. In many cases, states have passed ARRA funds to the districts as required by law, while simultaneously cutting the districts’ state funding, thus impacting their ability to effectuate sustainable education reforms.
The United States Department of Education remains committed to helping school districts use as much of the funding available to them as effectively as possible and have asked for ASBO’s assistance in identifying best practices that can serve as models across the country. The USDOE plans to publicize these models, help districts make good decisions on the use of ARRA funds, and provide resources to help school districts get their funding questions answered.
In response to the USDOE request, ASBO is reaching out to you as a recognized leader in the educational community. We are asking that you send us brief descriptions of best practices and programs as well as creative ways to utilize ARRA funds. Please also send your contact information to share with the USDOE. They would like to highlight your success stories around the nation in order to help other school districts replicate them.
You can respond by sending a brief description of what you have done to use stimulus dollars effectively directly to me at

Once again, the USDOE has turned to ASBO for help. Let’s give them as much information as we can to help our colleagues across the US use the stimulus dollars to realize our mutual commitment: improving education for our children.
