TEA Reminder to Use TREx PDF Print E-mail

9/23/10

In a September 20, 2010 TO THE ADMINISTRATOR ADDRESSED letter, the Texas Education Agency reminded school districts and open enrollment school districts to use the Texas Records Exchange System (TREx) to transmit selected student records and high school transcripts when students transfer from one Texas school district to another.  The transfer of student information is required within 10 working days of receiving a request for a student's records from a school in which a student has enrolled (For a complete list of data elements that may be sent through the system, see Appendix A of the TREX Data Standards at http://www.tea.state.tx.us/index4.aspx?id=2147484047 ).

The letter also contained a reminder that electronic high school transcripts are required to be exchanged by school districts, open enrollment charter schools and public institutions of higher education.  High school transcripts need to be provided in the TREx file to send through the UT SPEEDE server to institutions of higher education.

The Regional Education Service Centers provide training on the TREx system and help is also available at the TREx help desk.
