The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality is accepting grant applications from all school districts and charter schools for funding to retrofit eligible diesel-powered school buses with emissions-reduction technology.  According to Texas Education Agency records, over one in three school buses are over ten years old and newer technologies developed since the manufacture of these buses can benefit air quality.   Public schools are also encouraged to adopt certain voluntary strategies to reduce school bus emissions including:

·      Begin a voluntary idling limit for school buses.

·      Start enhanced maintenance programs.
