The Governor's Task Force on Unfunded Mandates has released its recommendations on May 6, 2011. It includes recommendations for education, public safety, transportation, jails, public health, retirement systems, human resources, public information, judiciary, licensing, elections & miscellaneous.

Mandates for education include: 

• Provide student-teacher ratio flexibility

• Repeal expenditure restrictions on compensatory education funds

• Provide block grants for public education

• Require a periodic sunset review for the Texas Education Code
