Data Visualizations on Public Education in Texas and Nation Data Visualizations on Public Education in Texas and Nation (176.42 KB)

The Texas Association of School Business Officials prepared this report to provide a brief presentation on the Texas public school system relative to the nation.  The data visualizations provide insights into a few key characteristics about the public school system and factors that affect student performance.

Texas is a low-spend state relative to spending per student.  Texas also has among the most challenging demographic relative to the student population and relative to the adult population income levels and educational attainment.   Texas was one of the highest performing states relative to 8th grade performance  for mathematics for the subpopulation of students whose parents did not  attain high school graduation (Texas has the highest percentage of adults in the  category).  We applaud the hard work of the Texas public school system staff for striving to excel in the face of a daunting demographic setting.

The report begs the question, “How much better could the Texas public school system do if we made a greater investment in public education?”

The data visualizations also provide links to the information sources from the United States Census, and the National Center for Educational Statistics.
