Schools Encouraged to Expand Energy Conservation Measures PDF Print E-mail

8/21/11

The Texas Education Agency recently communicated the importance of expanding energy conservation measures given forecasts of continued record high temperatures across the state.  Utilities are the second highest operating cost after payroll in many school districts and electricity is the highest cost category on utility bills during this time of year.  Schools are especially encouraged to conserve energy consumption during the hours 3-7 P.M. all week.

Primary drivers of electricity consumption include:

  • Temperature
  • Waste
  • Growth in square feet
