How did you get your start in school business?
I started in the finance department 12 years ago as a clerk but eventually went into human resources and moved up to become the Executive Director of HR for America Can! Charter Schools. I am now with IDEA Public Schools as their Regional Managing Director of Staffing & HR.
What do you like best about your job and where you work?
I love that I have a boss that encourages innovation. We strive to bring the best for our employees, and I love the mission of Texans Can. We really care about students and making them successful.
Why do you recommend TASBO to your colleagues? What programs and services do you find useful?
This is such a great community of school business officials that support one another. I am part of the mentor program as a mentee and have found it so rewarding.
What is your favorite TASBO training to attend and why?
I love to attend the TASBO annual conference. I get to attend many different sessions that are not just HR related. This is also a great way to network with individuals not only in my field but all fields of school business.
What was your childhood dream job?
I used to want to be a dentist. I wanted to help make smiles beautiful.
What book could you read over and over again?
My favorite book that I read as a young girl and that I often will go back to read is Paula by Isabel Allende which is a tribute to her late daughter.
Tell us a fun fact (or two!) about yourself:
I am left-handed and when I was young, I broke my left wrist. Since I was so young, I was forced to use my right hand which made me ambidextrous.
What's one thing you're excited about/looking forward to in the future?
I am excited to see what the future holds for education. Since distance learning has occurred during this COVID outbreak some parents, including myself, have become the at-home teacher’s aide. I think this experience is something that many will take back to work and maybe something new will come of it.
What does it mean to you to be TASBO certified?
I have my RTSBA and I am proud of the work I accomplished to obtain my certification!
Anything else you would like to include?
I was a part of the first Cohort for the Concordia/TASBO MBA program and graduated in April 2020.
