Fort Sam Houston ISD's Julie Novak was named the 2023 TASBO Commitment to Excellence Recipient at the annual conference in San Antonio. The award goes to the member who demonstrates consistent leadership within the organization and the profession.
At the TASBO Engage Conference in San Antonio, TASBO honored Julie Novak with the 2023 Commitment to Excellence Award. Julie currently serves as Assistant Superintendent for Finance & Operations for Fort Sam Houston ISD. Each year, TASBO selects an outstanding member who demonstrates consistent leadership within the organization and the profession. The award is sponsored by TASBO Strategic Partner Equitable.
Julie received a perfect score in the application process due to her dedication to TASBO and the profession. She has been an active member for years, both as a leader in the Alamo Area ASBO affiliate and as an officer on the TASBO board of directors. She served as Board President in 2019-2020.
"Julie's had a lasting impact on TASBO by mentoring others and developing training in the Alamo area and statewide," said TASBO Executive Director Tracy Ginsburg. "She believes in TASBO, and for that, I'm incredibly thankful."
Prior to her tenure at Fort Sam Houston ISD, she worked in a variety of San Antonio-area districts including San Antonio ISD, Poteet ISD, and Harlandale ISD. At Fort Sam Houston ISD, she has expertise in how public schools on military installations are funded. But, she also oversees a variety of business and operations departments. This experience puts her in a unique position to help others and see the big picture.
"She makes everyone around her better," said Fort Sam Houston ISD Superintendent Dr. Gary Bates. "She looks at all angles, all programs, all departments, and does what's best for our military students with the collaboration of everyone inside our district."
In recognition of the award, Equitable will donate $3,000 in Julie Novak's honor, to a cause tied to Fort Sam Houston ISD.
