Wes Eversole: Commitment to Excellence Profile

Eversole

Lake Dallas ISD's Wes Eversole was one of three members honored in the TASBO Commitment to Excellence Class of 2021.

Lake Dallas ISD Deputy Superintendent/CFO Wes Eversole was recognized as a 2021 TASBO Commitment to Excellence Honoree during the Virtual TASBO Engage Conference in February. One of three members of the 2021 class, Wes was honored for his contributions to TASBO, the school business profession, and public education.

Wes has been at Lake Dallas ISD since 2009, where he received the Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting each year from both the GFOA and ASBO International. At TASBO, he was selected as a member of the Governmental Relations Standing Committee and served as President for the DFW TASBO Affiliate.

We recently interviewed Wes and asked him about his thoughts about TASBO, the award, and his career as a school finance and operations professional:

What accomplishments are you most proud of in your professional career and/or as a leader in TASBO?

I'm proud of working in my district for almost 30 years. I'm proud of the budgets that we have adopted to provide resources to our campuses, our teachers, and our students. I'm proud of the bond elections that we have collectively passed in our school district. I'm proud of the facilities, that we built and that we've renovated. I'm proud of the relationships that we've built, with our staff, with our community, and with our board.

This is a complex business. At the school district, we wear lots of hats. TASBO has been a huge resource in my career, and I'm so proud to be part of the TASBO community.

What does being a Commitment to Excellence Honoree mean to you?

It means that I've been committed to my profession for the entirety of my career. Whether it's being a servant leader for my school district or just simply involved in TASBO.

Do you have any words of wisdom for your peers?

Take advantage of all the training opportunities TASBO offers. Get involved, get involved with your community, get out of your office, meet your staff, meet your teachers, get involved with your principals. But over and beyond that, our business is a people business. So build relationships.

About the Award

Each year, we award our highest individual honor – the TASBO Commitment to Excellence Award – to the member who best distinguishes themselves within their profession, within their district and within TASBO. TASBO will recognize the recipient and two finalists at the TASBO Annual Conference Awards Luncheon. The three honorees make up the TASBO Commitment to Excellence Class of 2021.

On behalf of the recipient and finalists, each year TASBO donates to the TASBO Scholarship Fund. In addition, TASBO Strategic Partner Equitable will generously provide a donation of $3,000 to the recipient and $1,000 to each of the finalists for programs in their home district.
