Marshall Schroeder: Commitment to Excellence Profile

Marshall

Conroe ISD's Marshall Schroeder was one of three members honored in the TASBO Commitment to Excellence Class of 2021.

Conroe ISD's Marshall Schroeder was recognized as a 2021 TASBO Commitment to Excellence Honoree during the Virtual TASBO Engage Conference in February. One of three members of the 2021 class, Marshall was honored for his contributions to TASBO, the school business profession, and public education.

Marshall has served as Director of Maintenance & Custodial for Conroe ISD since 2010. Marshall is a frequent instructor for TASBO's Maintenance & Operations Courses. He's been an officer for the Texas Gulf Coast Maintenance & Operations Association, an affiliate of TASBO. In addition, he's served as a TASBO mentor and officer for the TASBO Maintenance & Operations Research Committee.

We recently interviewed Marshall and asked him about his thoughts about TASBO, the award, and his career as a school finance and operations professional:

What challenges did you experience early on in your career?

Early on in my career, I went from being an HVAC technician to a school business administrator. Throughout that challenge - moving from "bud" to a "boss" - administrators in my own district and TASBO were glad to reach out and help me anytime I needed help.

What accomplishments are you most proud of in your professional career and/or as a leader in TASBO?

In my professional career, I'd have to say the I'm most proud of the team we built here in Conroe ISD. Of course you can't do that without a supportive administration team, a supportive board and a great team to help you along the way.

What does being a Commitment to Excellence Honoree mean to you?

It's an honor, and just even be considered for this award, knowing how many people work so hard with TASBO and with their districts throughout the state.

Do you have any words of wisdom for your peers?

Get engaged early in TASBO and stay engaged. TASBO has so many opportunities to learn from mentors throughout the state that can help you along the way.

About the Award

Each year, we award our highest individual honor – the TASBO Commitment to Excellence Award – to the member who best distinguishes themselves within their profession, within their district and within TASBO. TASBO will recognize the recipient and two finalists at the TASBO Annual Conference Awards Luncheon. The three honorees make up the TASBO Commitment to Excellence Class of 2021.

On behalf of the recipient and finalists, each year TASBO donates to the TASBO Scholarship Fund. In addition, TASBO Strategic Partner Equitable will generously provide a donation of $3,000 to the recipient and $1,000 to each of the finalists for programs in their home district.
